Roll with It was the highlight of our week.
Loaded with ability but plagued with issues he travelled strongly throughout under a superb ride from Tom Bellamy. Near foot perfect the whole way round I thought he looked the winner before the home turn and whilst he appeared to have his rivals covered, it was heart in mouth time, as he was probably 50/50 as to whether he stopped in his tracks from his old issue. Thankfully he showed no signs – and hasn’t since the race – and we can now hopefully move forward and get to see what he can really do. A superb effort from all of the team at home, a well thought out recuperation plan by the management team and thanks to all of his owners for their patience.
This was our second winner of the week after a great start on Monday at Wolverhampton with Bodygroove getting off the mark after being stepped up in trip. Like his mum he looks to have a future over the staying distances and could be one to follow up on this success as did she. He was our second runner on the card after Giant narrowly failed by ½ length also under Andrea Atzeni.
This week we head to Chelmsford on Tuesday with Champagne Supanova, the old boy has probably visited the track on more occasions than I, before heading to Yarmouth for the start of The Racing League on Thursday where we represent Team Ireland. With a large number of entries and a likely change in the weather and subsequent going, we’re unlikely to learn of Team Captain Kevin Blake’s selections until Tuesday.
We finish the week at Ascot with both Mahrajas Express and Waiting All Night both entered in the 7f handicap, and then on to York with Lucky Man on Saturday…. and who knows with the forecast showers we may even see Bernardo wheeled out from the care home.
