Meet Our Trainer: Richard Spencer
An accomplished race rider, Richard was granted his training licence in 2016 and became Rebel Racing’s private trainer shortly afterwards.
Richard supervises Rebel Racing’s private training operations and is responsible for developing our future stars.
Richard brings boundless enthusiasm and a vibrant approach to his role – and his energy and expertise have combined to produce a consistent line of winners for Rebel Racing in the last few years. In fact, less than two years after receiving his licence, Richard trained our Rajasinghe to victory at the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot (with a record-breaking time, no less).
Later, in 2018, he led Rumble Inthejungle to victory in the Malcomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. He has since gone on to train his 100th flat winner; an impressive personal milestone that adds even more credibility to the Rebel Racing brand.
Richard has an excellent racetrack record of his own, having ridden 25 winners over point-to-point and achieved notable wins in the Hunter Chase at Ascot in 2014 and the Royal Artillery Gold Cup at Sandown in 2012.
Overseeing everything from the day-to-day health of our horses to developing win strategies, Richard takes a pragmatic approach to his role that’s fuelled by a clear passion for our animals, our work, and our accomplishments. He understands the power of both commitment and consistency and is dedicated to ensuring we experience the same level of cumulative success in the next few years as we have seen to date.
