A day late with this week’s blog (due to the bank holiday) has meant that we were able to bookend the week with a brace of victories for I Follow Rivers. First up was Wolverhampton last Monday followed by Kempton yesterday, both under great rides from George Wood. Absolutely love this fella, a homebred by our own Rajasinghe out of our first ever Rebel Racing winner Rebel Surge – and doesn’t he have flashy good looks.
Sandwiched in between was a busy week, Ascot trials day on Wednesday saw Candy run a cracker on his seasonal reappearance – he will now come back a furlong and be aimed at The Palace of Holyrood House at the Royal meeting.
We then headed to Newmarket for the 2000 Guineas on Saturday with no less than 5 runners on the card! First up Two Tribes (3rd beaten a head) and Run Boy Run (4th beaten 3/4 length from an unfavourable draw) both gave us a bit of excitement. New recruit Twilight Calls probably needed the run but ran with credit to finish 5th in the Palace House Stakes, his main target remains the King Stand at Royal.
In the main event, Yah Mo Be There ran a super race. Smashed into at the start he settled well and travelled superbly and at the halfway point looked as though he could run into a minor placing. Having not seen out the mile he will also be dropped a furlong and will be aimed at the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Finally Waiting All Night once again ran with credit to finish 5th from a poor draw. All in all a super day’s work from the team with 4 of the 5 runners finishing in the money.
Along with I Follow Rivers we had a further 5 runners on the Kempton Bank Holiday Card. Rapper’s Delight found just one to good, improving on his debut third place to finish second and looks like a surefire winner next time out. Whilst Shallow ran another solid race to finish third (1/4 length) beaten only by the weight for age allowance.
Today we have a couple of the girls heading to Wolverhampton, both in search of their first victories. Paint The Town Red steps up in trip and bids to improve on her last time out second place once again under Hollie Doyle. Hot Like Me (George Wood) then has her first spin on the all weather and needs to show some improvement.
Giant (full brother to I Follow Rivers) heads to Kempton under Neil Callan on Wednesday.
Sex on Fire and Somebody make the journey to Chester on Thursday, both ridden by George Wood, whilst Your Love makes her debut under Hollie Doyle at Chelmsford to conclude this week’s runners.
