After Friday evening’s spectacular performance at Newmarket there could be no other headline this week.
Winning a Newmarket maiden first time out is no mean feat but to win against what could look to be a decent field by 5 lengths unchallenged was just incredible. I’m delighted for Richard Spencer and all the team at Sefton Lodge who have always held this lad in high regard and grateful to Rab Havlin who gave him the perfect introduction. All being well the next stop for RightHere RightNow will be the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster mid-September.
Shortly after, Midnight City made his debut on the same card. Having been a bit immature in the preliminaries he met trouble in running and finished an eye catching fifth within ½ length of second place. We’ll look to run him next at York in the valuable Goffs Premier Yearling Stakes.
On to Saturday and Waiting All Night lined up at Newmarket over the same course and distance as his victorious last start 7 days prior, albeit 2 grades higher in a class 2. Rab Havlin gave him another superb ride going down only ½ length into second place to a useful looking horse Fifty Nifty.
Up at Haydock the improving Naomi Lapaglia picked up even more Black Type finishing third in the Listed Dick Hern Stakes where she narrowly missed out on second place.
Elsewhere over in Deauville, Opus One (Jean-Claud Rouget) made an encouraging start for The Windfield Partnership finishing a close second and over 5 lengths clear of the third. All in all, a great week on the track for Team Rebel.
This week begins at Kempton on Wednesday with Giant back down in grade to a class 4. Having shown some excellent course form this season Neil Callan has a maximum field and difficult draw to overcome. Thursday could see his full brother, I Follow Rivers, line up at Chelmsford.
On Friday we start the day at Newbury with Candy in search of his first victory running off bottom weight in the nursery handicap. Juicy then heads to Wolverhampton before Waiting All Night lines up for the third week running at Newmarket – this time over One Mile.
Little Lies could round off the week at Newmarket on Saturday.
