A fantastic trip to Newcastle last Friday for All Weather Championship Finals Day saw us pick up over £50k in prize money without having a winner.
First up was Shallow who was stepped up to 7 furlongs and beaten only a length into third place in the Fillies and Mares Championship under a great ride from Hollie Doyle.
A couple of races later Run Boy Run was beaten in a photograph into second place in the Sprint handicap under a fantastic ride once again from George Wood.
A nice each-way double for these progeny of Rajasinghe returning to the same track as his eye-catching debut victory back in 2017!
Thanks to ARC for putting on the show including some great hospitality and looking after us really well. Three packed race tracks, full fields, competitive racing, all from putting on great prize money …… who would have thought?
One of our two year olds, Somebody, improved on his debut and ran a better race at Southwell yesterday to finish second after having missed the break. Always playing catch up he finished his race strongly under Hollie Doyle and should be capable of winning a race at this level.
Earlier in the week I think we learned that RightHere RightNow needs coming back in trip, he will be scratched from the 2000 Guineas this week and Yah Mo Be There will be confirmed. Possible next target could be the 6 furlong Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock.
More excitingly we called into the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale on Wednesday and bought a cracking Starman filly from Tally Ho Stud. “Gold Digger’ is our sole filly in this year’s juvenile team and the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot will be our target for her.
This week we head to Kempton ‘en masse’ later today where Giant (Neil Callan) is up first in the 6 furlong handicap. We then look forward to debuts of four lads from the Class of ‘24, Teardrops (Oisin Murphy) and Sprinter (Hollie Doyle) are drawn in Division 1 before Atmosphere (Neil Callan) and Rappers Delight (Charlie Bishop) contest Division 2.
No more runners from Sefton Lodge for the rest of the week until Sex On Fire heads to Haydock on Saturday where hopefully there will be some ease in the ground.
Elsewhere in Australia, Life After Love makes her reappearance on Wednesday in the 2 year old maiden at Newcastle under Jason Collett.
