One of the most enjoyable trips of the year last week up at York racecourse was rounded off with a guest appearance on Luck On Sunday. Whilst a huge honour to be invited onto the show it afforded me the opportunity to see first hand an absolute genius at work. All ‘live’ and unscripted with a few brief notes to guide him, Nick Luck manages to relax guests and conversations flow like no other.
We’d had an active week on the track starting with a great performance from The Man in the opening race of the meet on Wednesday. Trying to defy the history of age he was narrowly beaten in a photograph by possibly the extra 1/2 furlong and unexpected ease in the ground. Hopefully he will make the line up in Dubai ahead of a really exciting 4-year-old campaign next season.
On Thursday Shallow took her chance in the 7 furlong fillies’ handicap. Definitely more suited to six furlongs, she went off the front and defied huge odds to finish fourth and reward us all with another trip to the placed connections’ champagne bar.
Friday saw Ice Cube make his debut in the 2 year old maiden – a bit of a disappointing performance to be fair as we still look for a two year old from the class of 25. Shortly after, the luckless Yah Mo Be There once again found trouble in running and continues to frustrate.
Before Saturday the 3 musketeers lined up once again in the Constantine Handicap. A couple of below par performances from the other 2 lads saw Two Tribes come out again on top of our team finishing fourth – and whilst taking nothing away from the winner, I have us down as an unlucky loser.
This week we have a few entered up towards the end of the week although rain will need to come for most to participate.
Meanwhile the team are back at Doncaster’s Premier Yearling Sale as we build The Class of 26!
