A first and anticipated victory for Romeo Montague in the 6 furlong maiden at Lingfield on Saturday, giving us our fourth 2-year-old winner of the season and third in the last three weeks. As highlighted previously in this blog, I’ve felt this years 2 year olds were a bit slower to come to hand and the data looks to be supporting this … and let’s hope this pattern can continue.
Another fantastic ride from Saffie Osborne notching her fourth of the season for us, operating at a 22% strike rate.
Elsewhere at Doncaster our Leger festival team were depleted as expected due to adverse weather conditions. Still, You Sexy Thing ran a credible third despite requiring softer ground and a probable step up in trip. He looks spot on for his main target of the season, the Somerville Sales race at Newmarket on the 4th October.
Run Boy Run ran another cracker to finish fourth in the Portland Handicap on Saturday. Another super ride from regular pilot George Wood, he has finished in the money on no less than six occasions from nine this year and all at Class 2 level.
Off the track I was privileged to spend time with the genius that is Peter Thomas from the Racing Post , recounting my racing back story and future plans which were featured as The Big Read in Sundays paper. ICYMI Link to article
