“Less than 4 weeks til the Flat”

Amazingly there is now less than four weeks until the start of the flat season … or 26 days from today, Sefton Lodge is full to capacity and the team are in full swing. I’m looking forward to seeing all of their progress again this weekend as the earlier two year olds start to emerge and the older horses are put through their paces.

Some ‘sexy’ entries will also be made this week with Yah Mo Be There and RightHere RightNow (both pictured) being entered for the 2000 Guineas. Not only my favourite race of the year but one that has been extremely lucky for us with Rebel Rebel running second in 2005, Cockney Rebel winning in 2007 and Slim Shadey running fourth to Frankel in 2011 – some memorable days and hopefully if the stars align we could have a contender again this year.

A couple of runners this week with Con Te Partiro heading to Southwell on Tuesday for the first time in his career. Already the winner of 5 of his 14 races he attempts an extra furlong for the first time and would have to shoulder two pounds more than his last winning mark to be victorious.

On Wednesday hat-trick seeking Shallow returns to Kempton over the same course and distance of her latest two wins. With George Wood back in the saddle and raised just two pounds for her last victory she has a cracking chance of making it 5 from 8! What an advert she has been for the stallion Rajasinghe, who continues to gain traction at The National Stud.

Elsewhere Smalltown Hero (Christian Williams) runs today in the last at Southwell.
