“In The Ayr Tonight ……”

Saturday was a day in my life that I would love to relive over and over again.

It was our first visit to Ayr Racecourse and we managed to turn it into a three day party both off and on the track. Whilst we were running well picking up some minor place money on the opening two days it wasn’t until Day Three that we struck Gold …. Quite literally.

First up was Candy in the Silver Cup who made all under a magnificent ride from George Wood, making every yard a winning one. Back on his favoured softer ground the performance could turn out to be even more impressive given he is still only 3 and carried 8 pounds more than the Gold Cup Winner in a faster time.

Then just over an hour later we had to leave our champagne in the winning connections’ marquee and head for the main event – The Ayr Gold Cup. Our alleged second string Run Boy Run ran out victorious once again under a tremendous ride by George Wood to give the team a memorable big race double. This was made even sweeter given this lad was a homebred and by our very own stallion Rajasinghe.

The remainder of the day ran into a bit of a magnificent blur culminating in a bit of a party back at HQ. I can’t thank all the team enough for giving us one of the best days of my life, and to share this with your son and your friends make it even more special – creating memories to last a lifetime and beyond. Having had the opportunity to watch the day’s events back on ITV I do not think I made enough mention of the training talents of Richard Spencer, a natural horseman with a work ethic second to none – he deserves all of the recognition and plaudits he is now receiving. Still only a young man, I hope we can continue with our overriding objective of winning as many of the ‘Big’ races we can and training horses that people will remember the names of.

Our racing this week starts with Somebody at Lingfield tomorrow, followed by …

Shallow at Newmarket Thursday.
Ice Cube Newmarket Friday.
Rapers Delight Haydock Saturday and Mwaki at Southwell.

Apologies for the abbreviated running plans …. We’ve had a busy weekend!
