“I Got Gas In The Tank”

A quiet one on the racing front all around for us last week with just the one runner Wonderwall, finishing with another third this time at Cartmel on his second start for Peter and Mickey Bowen. Hopefully he’ll go even closer next time out.

Richard and the team at Sefton Lodge remain focused on Royal Ascot preparations which all kicks off two weeks tomorrow. I was able to join them on Saturday morning where a few of our leading hopes were given a breeze under intended partner Hollie Doyle. Fingers crossed everything remains kind to us over the next couple of weeks and should we get there in 110% shape we must have a few chances of making the frame.

We closed out the month of May with just the one victory resulting in a cumulative win strike rate of a healthy 24%. We also recorded a further five second places (some unlucky) from just sixteen runners, cumulatively 26 of 62 runners (42%) this year have finished either first or second!

This week starts for us at Wolverhampton on Tuesday with Candy having his second start in the two-year-old maiden. Ridden by Rob Hornby his first race was a bit of non-event after missing the break from a bad draw at Bath. Hopefully he can break fast and we’ll see what he has got.

Up next on the same card is Con Te Partiro, a three times winner this season, two times over course and distance. He runs in the same grade as his last victory albeit carrying 7 pounds more in the handicap. Neil Callan takes the ride.

Run Boy Run holds entries at Kempton on Wednesday and Haydock on Thursday, the latter looking the most likely option at the time of writing.

Aidan Andabettin could head to Thirsk on Friday with Waiting All Night (Beverley) and Lucky Man (Haydock) on Saturday.

Elsewhere Composite (George Boughey), owned in Partnership with Ed Babington could head to Chelmsford on Thursday.
