Baddaddan got last week off to a flying start scoring his first victory at the second attempt on Tuesday at Nottingham. Another fantastic ride from George Wood saw him run on well to beat the small field by an increasing 3 lengths. He is due to reappear this Saturday at Newmarket in the £200k Tattersalls Somerville sales race.
He could be joined Supersprint Champion Zigazig Ah whose Newbury triumph was given a timely update last Friday by Angels Lane who ran out a comfortable winner of the Listed St Hughs Stakes at Newbury.
This week is all about York and The Ebor Festival which kicks off on Wednesday. We are doubly represented in the first with Candy and The Man in the 5 furlong Heritage Handicap, currently at opposite ends of the betting markets and requiring quite different going descriptions.
We then bookend Wednesday’s card with Underdog in the nursery handicap, unsuccessful since making a winning debut he will appreciate the step up to 6 furlongs on better ground and is making his handicap debut.
Day 2 starts with the girls and a bold attempt with Sexy Chick in the Group 2 Lowther. An unlucky second on debut in a hot Newmarket Maiden was followed up by an unsuccessful attempt at 7 furlongs before an impressive victory back at Newmarket over 6 furlongs. She was beaten after a furlong when attempting 5 furlongs last week at Newbury but returned the fastest run out speed in an impressive second half performance. Fortune favours the brave!
Next up is Speed of Sound, our sole representative in the Harry’s Half Million Goffs Sales race, with prize money down to 10th she deserves to take her chance.
Finally on Day 2 we have Hawksbill in the 1 mile Heritage Handicap. Having shown glimmers of ability for us since his acquisition last October we remain confident that he is capable of landing a decent prize.
Friday we are back at York with Start Me Up, raised a furlong following his eye catching staying on performance last time out at Goodwood, he could sneak in off bottom weight. Then Cuff It also upped in trip in the 1 mile 4 furlong Heritage Handicap although he will need to be a little more fortunate at declaration stage tomorrow.
Shallow holds an entry at Newmarket.
Final day at York and we have Cuff It entered in The Melrose as his alternative to Fridays race and Rappers Delight in the Constantine. However we’ll be heading back to Newmarket for the two mentioned above in the sales race, Walkin On The Moon and Great Balls O’Fire in the 6 furlong Novice and Righthere Rightnow in the 6 furlong handicap.
